Hmmmm, just play a bit, you'll figure out what you like best.

I recently spent some time rummaging through a few of my friends jewelry boxes,

discovering old treasures, sentimentals from grandma, and lots of inspiring jewels!

I love getting it all out, cleaning, re-working, repairing and rejuvenating.

Getting it all tidy, in boxes, on cool iron stands, on trays and in drawers is so rewarding.

It feels like you've got a fresh new jewelry wardrobe!

What a good way to start the new year.

Broken Spirit

We had our best day ever at the Little Italy Mertcato on Christmas Eve. We've been doing this market for over three years, every Saturday. The day was beautiful, the people energetic and overall, cheerful.

My day was filled with joy as I met new and repeat customers wanting to buy "LilyGirl" for Christmas gifts. I can't count how many times I came around to the front of the table to offer a hug and greeting to those familiar faces. I heard countless times about how their favorite earrings were one's I had made. My sister Denise, and friend Leah were there with me, selling, helping restock, and showing off our latest collections. The market closed at 1:30 officially, but we had a line and sold till after 2:00.

Celebrating our accomplishments with our neighbors and market friends, we busily packed up and headed home to start our own Christmas Eve in our homes with family. Only one stop, the grocery store, to pick up one last gift. In and out I was, and then home to a beautiful house, filled with sparkle and the buzz of the neighborhood kids running the streets with anticipation. Ahhhhhh, feels so good.

To dinner next door, to bed early, and up celebrating Christmas Day. Parents came over and we had a lovely brunch, opened presents and as usual, a perfect day in Cardiff. As everyone was leaving, I decided I should pay my mom the money she made Christmas Eve at the Mercato. We sold many of her hand-crocheted headbands.  To the office, where I keep my admin box, not there.  Hmmm, to the car, I didn't take it out yet? Not there. Panic. Where is it? Back to the house, searching frantically, then back to the car, nope.  Gone.

How could this happen?  Retrace my footsteps...Vons. Did I not lock the car? Of course I did. But maybe not? Could it have been taken out of my car in my own driveway on my charming and private little street? No way.  I can't believe it, I can't believe it, I just kept repeating. In denial for many hours, I kept looking back in the car. By now I couldn't stop my tears, my stomach ache, my heart ache. And now, it's Christmas Day, in the afternoon hour, the time when our house is glowing with sunshine and we should be relaxing and enjoying the rest of this holiday.

It's gone. All that cash, our credit card machine, my camera, video camera, tools and all my admin supplies. It's gone. And for many days now, my spirit has been gone too. Or maybe it's just broken, and it can be mended.  Yes, it's only money, no one got hurt, all these things can be replaced. Thank goodness. But my spirit has been deflated and need to get it back!

I am writing this as a way to move on.  A way to get it off my chest. I'm not sure about forgiving the person who did this. I can't go there yet. But I hope I can stop the pains that I still have when I think about someone stealing from us. I hope I can fill my heart with all the love and remember the beautiful energy that surrounded that day. I thank the people who gave me that spirit and thank them for loving what we do.

DIY: Dream Catchers

Colorful and playful, these do-it-yourself

dream catchers

can fill an evening with artful joy!

According to Native Americans, dreams we have are sent to us by sacred spirits.

The dream catcher acts as a filter for only good dreams!

The web traps the bad dreams and they disappear at dawn.

When you Google "dream catcher" you can see over 4 million images,

go ahead and get some inspiration

and let your free spirit create an original work of art!

You will need: feathers. feathers. feathers.

Assorted pipe cleaners of all colors and sizes.

Yarn.

16 gauge craft or floral wire.

A pair of needle nose pliers.

Make a hoop with the wire and secure with two interlocking loops.

Using the pipe cleaners, start making a web.

Don't be too fussy with balance or symmetry...can you do that?

Remember be free!

I happen to have a blue and green theme going on. But the next one i make will be multi-colored.

You know pipe cleaners also make super cute garland...(sorry, got a little distracted)

Back to the task at hand.

Keep webbing, until you are satisfied that your bad dreams will be trapped successfully. :)

Now it's time for the feathers.

Watch out, once the feather bag is opened, little floaty feather whispies, fly every where.

Attach a pipe cleaner to the center of the base of the circle like so.

Then wrap it around the feathers, no pliers needed!

And...done! Oh ya, I used the yarn to hang it from, but you can also web with the yarn.

Crystal Angel Ornaments

The angels are back for their annual holiday blessings! I'm not quite sure how long ago I designed and began producing my original crystal angel ornaments. It feels atleast like 15 years ago! This year I have added a new version to the collection. Divine Spirit angels...they are adorned with fluffy bright feathers! So fun. They will range from $14-$16. The original version will still be available with a special pricing this year of $12 each or 2 for $20.

I tend to feel most comfortable in earthy elements. I am a nature girl at heart and the mountain woman in me loves wood, feathers, leather and natural stones. From there, I consider what to design based on others' personal style. From styles influenced by the beach, the yoga studio, the garden, nature, and night life, designing jewelry is very exciting!

Cinnamon & Pumpkin

I love the season of Fall for many of the typical reasons. The colors of Fall have always been my very favorite, with shades of brown, orange, red, yellow and green. I love the smell of cinnamon and pumpkin. I even like the colder evenings that allow me to wear sweaters. But what I don't care much for is the pace at which life begins to quicken with each day after Halloween. With the first day of November I begin to feel the first pangs of stress. So little time and so much to do...sound familiar?

DIY: Spirit Rocks

Simple DIY and so calming! Just gather up smooth rocks from the beach, (this is the best part, it can take hours of beach combing) and use a white sharpie to write words that inspire you! My Love

I met the love of my life in the summer of 1985.

I had just graduated from high school, where we both attended.

One afternoon, our beach day with many mutual friends had ended

and we snuck into a private gated pool to swim.

We ended up the last two people there and I remember him swimming up to me and kissing me!

We became great friends and more, over the next few months.

When my parents decided to move to the LA area,

we travelled back and forth every weekend to be together. It was torture!

It was about eight months later that we decided to shack up.

I moved back down to my beloved coastal town and started the working-student life.

Patrick and I didn't get married until nine years of living together,

stubborn man, but we have been together since.

So, this weekend we are celebrating 17 years of marriage and 26 years of love and friendship.

Our key to a happy and healthy marriage?

Know and accept that there will be challenges,

but get through them and believe in LOVE.

Let each other be who they are and give them the room they need to fulfill their own dreams.

Always kiss.

Kiss in the morning when you wake up, before you leave each other, when you reunite,

when you go to bed, and always while swimming in a pool.

I had a beautiful experience with Akram, of Thyme of Essence,

when he created this Mediterranean Wrap for me on Tuesday.

Just check out the ingredients! All fresh, all organic, all local.

He also sells the fine olive oil and organic spices used in the wrap.

The healthy flat bread is heated on this round, griddle-like cook top called a Saj.

Yes, as you can see, they are only $16.99!

And because they are made by two sisters at Amano Trading

AND they are made from wood bits that have been repurposed...I am obsessed!

Each one varies in shape, color and design.

They are embellished with a Swarovski crystal

and are set on a brass adjustable finger cuff.

They are made right here in California too!

What's not to love? I will be owning more than one, that's for sure.

Got together with JuicyS (Sarah) today, to talk chakras.

First things first. Simply define Chakra.

A Sanskrit word meaning “wheel of light”.

There are seven of these energy centers

that lie along the nave of the spine.

The highest chakra is CROWN.

Located at the top and center of the head.

Its color is usually purple.

Sarah is one of the Divine Spirit artists and she is creating

a collection of healing chakra alters that will feature

an original painting of a meditative mandala symbol.

Each Chakra has its own purpose, location, and color.

We are loving all the colors and we're creating

a collection of "seven chakra" necklaces that include every one!

The rest of the chakra colors and locations...

Third Eye - Indigo

Throat - Aqua

Heart - Green

Navel - Yellow

Sacral - Orange

Root - Red

We've also made a few necklaces for each individual chakra.

Sarah is also creating a life size illustration of our Warrior Princess...

The word hamsa means five.

It's an ancient amulet symbolizing the Hand of God.

This is my first wire hamsa.

I love this original silkscreen print from Etsy artist, Clare Margaret.

In many faiths it is a sign of protection.

It's said to bring it's owner happiness, luck, health and good fortune.

I made this one to hang on my front entrance wall.

One of my favorite symbols of spring has always been the butterfly.

From caterpillar to a full-color winged beauty,

the butterfly symbolizes change or transformation.

These vintage beauties are from my mother-in-law's sweet collection.

In ancient Greek, the word for butterfly is "psyche"

which translated means "soul".

Its connection with the soul is rather fitting.

We are all on a long journey of the soul.

Throughout our lives we are given many opportunities

for such change or transformation.

Random sights of butterflies in the spring,

remind me that it is our responsibility to accept changes

that may occur and emerge from our transitions

as beautifully as the butterfly.

Buddha-full

In general, buddha means "awakened one",

and a person who has achieved the state of enlightenment.

A couple of buddha's just waitin' in our studio.

This happy buddha greets me at my front door everyday and reminds me to

seek purity in every aspect of my daily life,

and that a peaceful mind will lead to true happiness.

Doesn't he look happy?

From our friends at Anantara, who bring us thai silver & hill tribe findings,

these buddha's are made of clay and are encased with an antique-like metal setting.

I'm thinking these should be long, so you can hold them in your hand.

There's something about scrolling iron that I've loved since... I can remember!

I've got quite a collection in my home.

I notice it where ever I go and often try to imagine myself twisting wire into the unique shapes and designs I see.

Or even fashioning jewelry with the same shapes or silhouettes.

While I've designed and curled lots of wire in the last 14 years, I've never welded or created anything with heat or solder.

For now, small hand tools and my small hands only! Something, perhaps, I'll get to some day...

Mercato Moment: Artful Lily

Meet Katy. She is an artist down at the Little Italy Mercato.

Every week she paints a "Petrait" for amused onlookers.

And...on Saturday, it was Lily's turn!

I love watching how she finishes up with the sparkle in her eyes!

Meditative Mandalas

The word Mandala finds its roots in the old Indian language of Sanskrit and loosely translated it means "Circle"...and a circle suggests wholeness, unity and eternity.

Our recent interest in mandalas was sparked by a friend, who we like to refer as our sister-artist-friend, SARAH. She likes to call it doodling...but as you see below, it's more than just an unfocused drawing made during a long telephone conversation.

Since then we've been seeing mandalas in everything, and have begun embracing this new love as an opportunity to rejuvenate the center within ourselves and to unite with other artists.

They can be beautiful works of art. Coloring a mandala yourself can be meditative and calming, and an exercise that brings you into the moment.

My first one was made with steel wire. I made individual wire designs and layed them onto a white board. I think there are 45 pieces here. How will I attach them? Hmmmmm.

First 5 days of 2011, the flu got me, making it easy to choose a word I want this year to represent!

STRENGTH. I don't mean just bodily and muscular. Yes, I will be sure to get more of the stairs this year...they're just down the hill from me and lead to the sand.

Mental strength will come from daily practices of meditation and breathing and always speaking to myself in positive phrases.

I also hope to be a source of strength for those needing it and to be inspired by others who have it when I may be lacking.

MIND BODY & SPIRIT will be strong.

I'm not one to use traditional red and green for my holiday decor...no, no, no!

I converted this corner of my kitchen into a cool little colorful & peaceful hang out. Just thought I'd share!

I have a collection of small vintage ornaments that I hung from this branch.

These glittery ornaments are the perfect topper for a couple of white vases!

And a candle-holding-buddah seems right at home under the aqua metalic tree!

And my favorite...the starfish that I painted a fuscia shimmer pink! How do you decorate for the holidays?

Mercato Moment: Red's in Season

One of the best things about a farmer's market is the way you can actually tell the seasons are changing. You see the different fruits and vegetables come and go as they are supposed to, and you can find yourself feeling more in tune with the time of year.

Today I noticed how pomegranates have made their appearance in many of the local booths, and I also couldn't help but notice how beautiful they are for this time of year. The red color is perfect for the holidays.

Fresh or dried pomegranates can look festive in a decorative bowl around the house!

Not sure what makes these pomegranates sweeter than normal, but I'd like to find out...

These fall beauties are certified organic if that is your priority.

And you can even find pomegranate inspired products at the mercato right now! But get there early for the pom juice, it was sold out...

Next time you're at a farmer's market, keep your eye for persimmons too, as they go in and out of season in the blink of an eye!

Beach Town Boutique

Had a really fun photo shoot with my best little-girl-friend, AVERY. She lives next door and we've become good friends. She'll come over just to hang out and see what I'm doing. We make cookies, swing on the old wood swing out front and she loves to learn about yoga and meditation! She's seven. So when I needed to get a few shots of our new Little LilyGirl Collection, "Little LIL", I went next door, we picked some clothes, and...instant model!

My favorite is the Little Celebration Necklace. Great for a mom-n-me gift! Every piece comes in a sweetly decorated little gift box too.

Areo called the other day and wanted to see our new collection. This store is truly amazing. It's been on Ocean Avenue in downtown Laguna Beach for almost 18 years.
